so i've been meaning to create my self a nice subwoofer horn for a home surround sound system. the drivers i used were a pair of Tang Band W8-740C which can be found on www.partsexpress.com. drivers are wired in series too compliant with a Dayton 500watt amp. 300watt rms between the two drivers but i only modeled 250watt as they are two 8" drivers hiting high 20s. spacing wise, it's in between 1/8 space and 1/4 space in the area that this will be used in according to the dimensions of the finished project.

Sensetivity:
28hz-100hz flat 107db @ 1watt/1m *1/8 spacing*
28hz-100hz -3db 103.5db @ 1watt/1m *1/4 spacing*
28hz-100hz -5db 100db @ 1watt/1m *1/2 spacing*

the white area  the images below is the intended response range that i will be using. you'll also notice that it's a big horn which will be perfectly fine because it's a big entertainment center . i'll probably be using a Sony 32" wega LCD TV to go with it so magnetic feilds wont bug the image quality . as sensetivity shows, inteded use will be 28hz-100hz.

Inputs:

Phase response:

1/8 space output with 250watt 8ohm 1w/1m:

1/4 space output with 250wat 8ohm 1w/1m:

1/2 space output with 250watt 8ohm 1w/1m:

i've also been able to cut the size down by half. length stays about the same, but segments are half the size with F3 at 30hz instead of 28hz.

@NeverWinter.  That's a lot of path!  Reading threw your post, you state "drivers are wired in series".  Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that would only equal 150RMS.  I also read somewhere that it can introduce some distoration.

@Jeroen.  With it painted it looks more like an ice box!  Nice build!

alot of path, but the horn expansion isn't all that big and is very easy to manage *after the mods i made*. as for the RMS, that stands for amp output, not drivers. two 4ohm drivers wired in series to make for 8ohm to the amp and 300watt RMS rating *though only 250watt at most will be seen*. the horn it's self will be split in half after the first couple hundread centemeters so that each mouth fires off to the sides.

It hits 110 dB at 30 Hz (2pi) and moves to 115 dB at 90 Hz (max simulated SPL). Required amp power: not more than 250 watts.

Driver: Visaton TIW250XS (10") www.visaton.com

those tang bands are nice drivers
i've been mucking around with a few designs for them myself

got a 5.1 system in the pipeline as soon as funds allow

centre and rear - CSS FR125S in sealed boxes

mains - Adire Extremis 6.5 + CSS WR125S +unknown tweeter

sub - Tang Band W8-740C in either a horn or BP6 behind my sofa

all powered off gainclones - 56W/ch chip amp cloned off a japanese audiophile amp that originally sold for $2000 and DIY'd for about £100 per stereo amp

the audio will be coming from an entertainment pc affair with a soundblaster running kx project software allowing me to crack the dsp and setup my own filters and eq etc
